The Graduate Medical Education Office (GME) (also called Residency Administration) is part of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and is responsible for administering the activities that are common to all of the residency programs. This site is meant to provide Program Directors and Coordinators with forms and information. The term resident refers to all trainees in GME programs (interns, residents, and fellows).

The Capital Area Health Consortium is responsible for the providing benefits and paychecks for residents approved by the GME office. All changes to the payroll status of a resident (beginning, unpaid leaves, terminating) must be processed by the GME Office first.

This site is continually updated. If there is something you would like added, please contact Janice Lombardi.

MALPRACTICE:
Contact Anne Schick for further details or questions concerning the description below.

All medical residents/fellow physicians are fully protected by State statute from civil liability arising from any civil claim for malpractice taken in discharge of duties or within the scope of their training when the resident/fellow physician is at the University of Connecticut Health Center or at an assigned site that is not one of the affiliated hospitals for the program. Coverage is for the occurrence of an incident on those claims during the residency period and extends after the end of the residency period for incidents which occurred during the residency period. The scope of this protection is not limited in dollar amount.

By State law, when the resident/fellow physician is assigned to an affiliated hospital, coverage is from that institution. All liability coverage at affiliated hospitals is in an amount and manner equivalent to that provided by the hospital to its full time physician employees. There is no policy number.
